Had an absolute amazing trip back to our favorite Canarian Island: Fuerteventura.
As usually we stayed in Corralejo with easy access to the kite and surf scene in the north. You will need a car to get around to the spots, and you’re best of with a car that can do some off road stuff. If you’re looking for a cool place to stay, maybe a pro lesson and some spot guiding, you should hook up with Rabbit gangster, Fadi. He runs Majanicho Surf House, and is the Wainman Hawaii dealer on Fuerteventura.
If you don`t mind some rocky places you can get pretty nice flat water action. I joined Fadi in the lagoons to do some Wainman Hawaii demoing one day, and scored some good action on my Joke. It felt nice to be back in the lagoons. Couple of years back I lived 4 months on the island, and did a lot of training in the El Cotillo lagoons. Back then it was all about freestyle for me, funny how things changes. These days it`s all about strapless surf.
This year I mostly did Maja and La bomb, all depending on wind directions. On Maja there is a lot of reef, so you must be prepared to pay the cost. One day I did not pay good enough attention, and hit the reef, broke off two fins and got some damaged on my board.
No worries, there is plenty of repairs shops around. I can recommend Joyas surf shop in Lajares. Julian is very good on repairs, and he got mine fixed in a couple of days. I also got to borrow one of his boards while mine was on repairs, excellent service! If you need repairs or are wondering about a custom, hook up with him ! You also find kite repair in Lajares, “Zig Zag” does great work!
Maja and the west coast will give you right hand waves, while the east coast provides lefts. All is very wind and tide depending. You need to know when to go, to score good waves.
Had a really nice trip as usual to Fuerte, and hopefully we will soon return to this amazing island.
I did shoot a lot with my go pro, both pictures and some video. Later I might be putting together a short vid, but for now I`m posting some pics from the trip.
Hope you like em, Aloha !
